IOSCO C8 meeting 2016

Committee on Retail Investors (C8)

On 24 and 25 February 2016, ASIC hosted 32 delegates from around the world for a meeting of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) Committee on Retail Investors (C8). The C8's work focuses on retail investor education, financial literacy and investor protection.

Overview of the meeting

The two-day meeting featured presentations by a range of academics and researchers, international regulators and financial services representatives on topics of relevance such as:

  • insights from behavioural economics
  • the implications of new financial technologies for investor education
  • investor engagement and emerging risks
  • the impact of cognitive decline on financial decision-making by seniors.

Community of Practice presentations

Many of the C8 delegates attended ASIC's Financial Literacy Community of Practice meeting on 26 February, at which several C8 delegates spoke about how financial education, literacy and capability is conducted in their countries. See Community of Practice 2016 to view these presentations.
